Jason McLennan defines it as “a design philosophy that seeks to maximize the quality of the built environment, while minimizing or eliminating negative impact to the natural environment.”

What is sustainable landscape design?
Sustainable landscape design is an integrated effort to preserve or restore our ecosystems, provide adequate drainage and stormwater management solutions, design our hardscapes and roofs with heat, light, and air movement in mind, and design integrated open spaces.
